Character Name: Prompto Argentum
Canon: Final Fantasy XV
Canon Point: Final chapter of the game (after Noctis says farewell to his friends and they turn around to face the spawning daemons).
Appearance: Prompto is characterized by his pale, freckled complexion. Several freckles cover the highs of his cheeks and solitary ones can be found throughout his face, neck, and (usually exposed) arms. His face is framed by his light blond hair, which after ten years has grown into some sort of mullet, as well as the goatee on his chin many claim their dislike towards... His eyes are a vibrant blue, pulling towards a violet hue; his eyebrows make him seem to be constantly frowning in their angry downward angle, as does the sharp slant of his eyes, and there's heavy bags of exhaustion under his eyes. He stands at ~5'7", and although he is usually of a smaller muscular complexion, he put on some weight in that department after ten years. Of note are his codeprint tattoo over his right wrist and the bandanna he wraps over his right bicep. He has a preference for long trousers and sleeveless shirts. He tends to cross his arms but his approach towards others is usually of the more open-arms stance, his hands always fidgeting with something.
Age: 30
Setting: FFXV takes place in Eos, a place where technology meets fantasy. In many ways, Eos is a lot like our world, with similar infrastructure and technological advancements, but it's a world that owes much of its progress as a civilization to magic. Whereas Lucis is a technologically advanced country that relies heavily on magic that has come down a royal bloodline, Niflheim is has a heavier focus on machinery and technology using the powers of daemons, monsters that prowl in the dark. Eos is a world with an ongoing war between two nations and an underlying prophecy that stretches the limits of magic, the role of god-like entities, the necessity for constant battles, and fantastical backdrops throughout the land.
History: wikia link!
Personality: Despite the company he keeps, Prompto is nothing like the somber, serious guy he is meant to portray. None of this "bad boy" vibe for him. He is, after all, the playful one in his group of friends. Loud and easily excitable and energetic, Prompto is often seen unable to stop moving where he sits. He's often seen in the Regalia (their car) sitting shotgun, but within less than a minute he's sitting up and turning around to talk, looking back, getting all up in the driver's business, fidgeting with his camera, and being generally active--whereas Noctis naps, Ignis drives quietly, and Gladiolus calmly reads a book. This, however, has nothing to do with him being the comic relief, and everything to do with the fact that Prompto is absolutely out of his depth.
See, Prompto is a commoner in comparison to the majority of the FFXV crew. He had an average childhood with average dreams and desires (becoming a professional photographer one day), and the most exciting thing to happen to him was running into an injured puppy on the side of the road on his way home from school. This being said, never in his life would Prompto have considered becoming friends with anyone related to royalty, much less the Crown Prince of Insomnia, and let's not even talk about becoming the Crown Prince's best friend. He knows so little about the way royalty goes about their business and most times doesn't even know how to react in front of someone like King Regis, Noctis' father, (other than freeze nervously in place and stuttering on whether he should bow or not), and he had never expected to have found himself in the middle of a war against the Empire as he inevitably has. This does lead to accidental comic relief behavior, if only because Prompto's reactions to situations are more exaggerated and confused than that of his friends who are more used to these kind of circumstances. I mean, his default response to unknown situations is to hide behind his friends because most everything is new to him. He faces the novelty of things in a good way though, with a smile and cheer on the less dangerous end of the spectrum--always trying to keep things light-hearted and cheering up others--and with stubborn determination to stand tall amongst his more experienced friends.
Needless to say, underneath his amateur attempts at flirting and appearing cool (especially in front of girls he finds himself attracted to) and his overall cheerful demeanour, there are layers to Prompto beyond who he shows himself to be as in the public eye. This brings me back to how finding an injured puppy on the side of the road was one of the most exciting things to happen to him. He actually grew up pretty sad and lonely; his parents were never home, he didn't have any friends (not because he wasn't liked, but he simply didn't know how to approach others), and every day was the monotonous same throughout. Finding this injured puppy and immediately treating its wound, soothing the scared animal, taking it home and feeding it until it regained some of its strength shows an important part of who Prompto is--a caring and selfless individual. He does what he can for others who are in need (such as immediately checking on Gladiolus and helping him up to his feet when the man('s pride) got injured, or in how when Ignis loses his sight he is constantly the one walking back with the other and helping him walk by keeping a slow pace and his arms at the ready were Ignis to trip). This reveals an awfully sensitive side to Prompto; he'll cry easily, without shame (okay, a little embarrassment present, though), because his emotions are a part of himself that make Prompto Prompto. He finds kindness in himself to worry about others first because of how he allows himself to feel and accept his emotions as they are. Were it otherwise, we would not have the kindhearted, concerned Prompto.
His friends are the world to him. Noctis, Ignis, and Gladiolus are, after all, his only friends, and he's always afraid of losing them. Be it in battle, be it to internal turmoil, be it to them not accepting who he is. He often hides his disappointment in silence, however, same as when he's upset. Prompto does have his serious moments, even if they're not always on display. He still feels loneliness pretty close to himself, and often questions his worth to his friends, not because he doubts them but because he needs a constant validation that he is worth all the trouble, and that they just don't put up with him for the sake of doing so. In the end, Prompto will always strive to be useful to his friends, and that means he will never stop trying hard for them. He cowers when faced with danger and is unsure where his friends are confident, but he doesn't back down, no matter how much he wants to. His loyalty runs deep, and that's one of his most defining qualities; no matter where he comes from, or what he's affiliated to due to his place of origin, his strong sense of loyalty is what keeps him from ever betraying his friends--those he loves the most.
And, beyond anything else, having lived such a lonely life as a child and having not strayed from his usual routine, Prompto is in many ways very innocent and sometimes naive. He, however, has all the best of intentions at heart. From his loving fascination of chocobos and an enjoyment of video games and technology, Prompto carries with himself a childish curiosity and attitude, making several pop culture references and singing tunes of video games he loves. He also doesn't bother to hide his dislike towards things, such as bugs, opening himself up to a barrel of teasing--but also comes to show that he's not afraid of expressing his opinion on trivial things. As mentioned before, Prompto has many layers--from being funny, cheerful, determined, serious, and ultimately a lonely guy--and it all makes him the kindhearted person he has grown up to be, a person who wants--more than anything else--the happiness of his friends, and often puts himself in the middle to try and make things better between each other.
Ten years after the main events of the game, and at the age of thirty, Prompto's core personality hasn't changed much. Much of everything can be subject of interpretation, as the player doesn't get to interact much with the cast of characters before the final battle/game's ending. However, it is very clear that Prompto has matured; he's more serious at times, although his joviality is still there, and he's become a lot more hardened than what he was at the age of twenty. Although he reluctantly bids farewell to his best friend, he keeps himself from his louder outbursts, as ten years have given him the understanding of just how important fulfilling the prophecy that's been hanging over their heads is. He is also slightly more sure of himself, after having revealed to his friends his true origins, ten years ago, and receiving acceptance, still. He no longer needs to hide behind this insecurity, and thus he became more assertive in his actions. And so, as the world dimmed to darkness, Prompto's sunshine personality also dimmed, if only to match the seriousness of their current situation.
Canon Abilities/Skills: Prompto is a pretty normal character as far as Final Fantasy canon is concerned, but I'll list out his abilities and skills (which I don't think need nerfing down, considering he ain't no Noctis).
· FIREARMS & MACHINERY; Prompto is adept at handling handguns, sniper rifles, and submachine guns, as well as machinery (crossbows, bioblasters, saws, and other types of tools that can be repurposed as weapons). His shooting style is pretty dynamic, rolling and bouncing and skidding about as he shoots his target. His strongest suit is performing one his gun-related techniques: Trigger Happy, which allows him to provide an onslaught of rapid-shots at his enemy.
· SELF-DEFENSE & COMBAT; Episode Prompto has shown that Prompto is able to not just be the guns expert of the group, but to work elements of stealth and hand-to-hand combat when without a long-range weapon. He pulls off roundhouse kicks and choke holds on his enemies, and even attacks his enemy with melee weapons (knives, steel pipes).
· PHOTOGRAPHY; ...clearly worth mentioning.
ON STATION 72
Symbiote Specialization: Rho
Symbiote Ability: Focus
ADDITIONAL CLARIFICATION: When the symbiote ability of focus is put into action, time will appear to be slowed down due to the heightened reflexes, senses, and reaction time. This will allow for the one under focus to be able to 'see,' so to speak, things and people around them moving a lot slower. This will allow for enough time to make decisions based on what's coming their way and what's happening around them. This happens during a second or two of indecision when the person under focus requires to strategize and make a quick choice in the spur of the moment. Outside of that moment of indecision, their reflexes will be more accurate; they will be able to react faster and make more decisive attacks (for example, being able to aim without trouble at a weak point) for as long as the symbiote ability is in use.
Effects will last for five minutes at the most advanced usage in each stage. The effect will last longer if he is using a less advanced level at higher stages - using the basic level at stage 2 will give him seven minutes, using the intermediate level at stage 3 will give him seven minutes, and using the basic level at stage 3 will give him ten minutes.
· BASIC (+) At a basic level, Focus will allow for a higher than usual concentration: sharper target focus, accuracy in battle (when landing hits), and performing critical hits. (-) Dizzy spells that last for hours after the ability is used, rendering Prompto clumsy and unable to... well, focus too much.
· INTERMEDIATE (+) Those who borrow the ability will find themselves growing more proficient in their own symbiote ability during battle or otherwise. (-) Prompto will suffer from migraines after the ability has been used (with all or some of the downfalls of migraines, such as sensitivity to light and sound, nausea and vomiting, blurred vision, general head pain and throbbing, lightheadedness with sometimes fainting).
· ADVANCED (+) Big time party buff. In RPG terms, stats like protect, shell, reflect, vanish, regen, haste, float, spirit, etc will be at an all-time high throughout the duration of the battle. Negative effects like slow, poison, sleep, doom, petrify, freeze, heat, etc... will have a reduced effect. (-) After the ability has been used, Prompto will immediately fall unconscious for a day or two, maybe more, depending on the amount of characters that have borrowed the ability.
Inventory: The Kingsglaive Garb he's wearing, along with his Quicksilver gun, and his camera with all the pictures in it... (max 100 as per game regulation).
I do want to mention that Prompto's guns are stored in Noctis's hammerspace unless he's using them for battle, ready to be summoned when Prompto wants them. They'll technically be there for him upon arrival and once he's linked again to Noctis's magic.
